Presidential Goal #4: Foster diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging

By Chris Buchignani

.

Dr. Marcus Whitehurst, Vice Provost for Educational Equity, will take the lead on ensuring a safe, welcoming Happy Valley experience for all who come to study, teach, work, and live at Penn State, with a focus on identifying shortfalls and closing gaps in serving underserved populations. That will include evaluating current conditions and programming while also proposing new solutions when applicable. Whitehurst will be joined by co-leads Pat Kraft (Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics/Director of Athletics) and Jennifer Wilkes (Vice President for Human Resources).

Focus areas that caught our eye:

  • Establishing baseline metrics and goals for campuses and units to close DEIB gaps
  • Closing gaps in graduation rates across backgrounds and identities
  • Enhancing a sense of inclusion and belonging for all Penn Staters, as measured through data-driven tools such as the recurring Living Our Values Survey
