With over 120 years in service in Central Pennsylvania, Joe Krentzman & Son Inc. and Krentzman Metals Corporation have cracked the code for business longevity.

Since its humble beginnings in 1903, Joe Krentzman & Son Inc. has been the principal recycling business in Central Pennsylvania. From a modest, family-run horse-and-wagon operation, the company grew to become a premier provider of scrap materials, industrial supplies and reliable recycling services.

The Original Recyclers

Known as the “Original Recyclers” of the Centre Region, the Krentzman companies have consistently embodied a commitment to quality, economy and community-driven service. However, what sets Joe Krentzman & Son Inc. apart in the recycling industry is its unique business model: They purchase recyclable metallic scrap without charging fees, paying top market prices for materials.

“Known as the “Original Recyclers” of the Centre Region, the Krentzman companies have consistently embodied a commitment to quality, economy and community-driven service.”

This model benefits both suppliers and consumers, ensuring that Krentzman delivers quality raw materials to steel and metals manufacturers at competitive prices, thereby reducing the environmental impact associated with mining and manufacturing. This dedication to quality and environmental responsibility has reinforced its role as leaders in the industry.

Over the decades, the company has also adapted to changing times and technological advances. From the establishment of the Krentzman Supply Company to the creation of Krentzman Metals Corporation in 1988, the family has expanded from scrap recycling to include a brokerage division that serves steel mills and foundries.

“Every single thing we’re doing, we strive to improve,” Steve Krentzman shared, emphasizing the company’s dedication to continuous improvement.

The company’s journey of growth and adaptation has seen it through the two World Wars and shifts in economic landscapes, always with a steady focus on innovation and market responsiveness. “Every single thing we’re doing, we strive to improve,” Steve Krentzman shared, emphasizing the company’s dedication to continuous improvement.

Now in its sixth generation of family leadership, the Krentzman companies remain true family businesses. Michael and David Krentzman, sons of Steve Krentzman, have continued to grow the companies, overseeing operations at their multi-yard facilities and upholding the values that have long defined Krentzman: honest service, fair pricing and a steadfast commitment to the business.

This commitment extends to employees as well; the company is known for generous benefits, employee safety initiatives and policies fostering job security. In fact, in its 122 years of business, the company has never laid off a single employee. Team Krentzman is comprised of several 30-year and third-generation team members.

The Krentzmans’ ongoing success is a testament to the resilience, innovation and family values at the companies’ core. As they look to the future, the Krentzmans remain dedicated to enhancing their services, expanding their facilities and supporting the communities they serve.

In an industry marked by rapid change, Joe Krentzman & Son Inc. and Krentzman Metals Corporation stand as a model of steady, enduring success, built one step at a time over more than a century.
