“The Resources in Human and Financial Capital are Right Here in Our Backyard”

“The Happy Valley connection is so strong with Reclamere. Both owners are alumni of Penn State, so aside from all of the business benefits, Penn State is always number one in our hearts,” Reclamere CEO Angie Singer Keating says. “I think people would be shocked at the innovation happening in our region. No one needs to go to Silicon Valley, Boston or New York to build a great technology company. Thanks to Ben Franklin Technology Partners and Penn State, the resources in human and financial capital are right here in our backyard.”

Started in 2001 by two Penn State graduates, Reclamere is now one of the leading data destruction and data security companies in the business. Reclamere is the only NAID AAA Certified company in Pennsylvania, and the only IT asset disposition (ITAD) service provider in the United States, with $5 million in Downstream Data coverage.

To get to the top of the data security business, Reclamere relied on help from the Ben Franklin Technology Partners to get started.

“The mentorship and in-kind services offered by BFTP were just as important as the funding. Our funding was paid out in tranches. Each tranche was contingent upon hitting business milestones,” Singer Keating says. “BFTP helped us develop milestones and then provided additional assistance to help us achieve them. Through the Transformations group, we got sales and marketing assistance, as well as accounting help and market research. We couldn’t have afforded those services at the time we needed them most. To have the assistance from seasoned business professionals that they gave was just invaluable.”

So What Does Reclamere Do?

When clients hire Reclamere, they’re working with a team of highly-skilled professionals that tailor every service to the organization’s needs. Reclamere works with businesses and helps them prepare to handle any potential security incidents by auditing current processes. However, the Reclamere team also understands that many companies wait until a security crisis hits before putting systems in place and they prioritize restoring normal operations as quickly as possible.

“We couldn’t have afforded those services at the time we needed them most. To have the assistance from seasoned business professionals that they gave was just invaluable.”

In working with businesses post-security breach, Reclamere conducts interviews with staff to develop a timeline and get answers to the important questions regarding the data breach. Then, they work to determine the goals of the organization in regard to the breach and investigate the reasons for the incident. After analyzing all of the data collected during their investigation, Reclamere provides clients with a report that will detail the incident, the results of the analysis, and provide recommendations to prevent future security incidents. As a follow-up, Reclamere also monitors your organization’s systems to minimize the impact of a returning attacker or any future security incidents.

Reclamere also has a team of highly-skilled data security experts trained to capture, secure and completely destroy the data contained within your computer and other technology equipment such as printers, smartphones and tablets, providing businesses with peace of mind and the utmost sense of security.

Getting Started, Surviving, Then Thriving

Even though Reclamere has grown exponentially since its beginnings in 2001, the initial support from Ben Franklin Technology Partners made a huge difference for Reclamere, long-term.

“BFTP funding was crucial to our ability to get an additional round of funding when our seed money had run out,” Singer Keating says. “The bank wasn’t willing to loan us more money. We looked to a local business development organization, but they were only willing to loan us money if we had another party to go in with half the money we needed. BFTP was absolutely critical to our survival. Without a crystal ball, I can’t say for sure but I’m afraid we might not have survived during our first three years without them.”

“BFTP was absolutely critical to our survival.”

Angie Singer Keating is now giving other businesses that same level of support and mentorship as a board member at Ben Franklin Technology Partners.

“It’s been my honor to give back to BFTP by serving as a long-time board member,” Singer Keating said. “Every quarter, I am in awe of the companies that our portfolio managers bring forth for consideration.”
