Charlene Morett-Curtiss—Penn State legend, two-time Olympian, and lifelong mentor—joined us for our first Connecting the Dots Community Conversation.
She didn’t speak from the stage.
She didn’t need to.
When a leader like Char walks into the room, her legacy walks with her.
She’s lived out a leadership model built on trust, connection, and what she calls: “Play with Heart.” From Field to Community.
For more than 30 years, Char led Penn State Field Hockey to success at the highest level. But her true legacy? The relationships. The impact. The team that never stopped being a team—even decades after graduation.
“She didn’t just coach us—she shaped us.”
“Char is the reason we keep showing up—for each other, and for Happy Valley.”
Teammates for Life: A Movement That Lasts
Char’s leadership continues today through Teammates for Life, a Penn State Women’s Athletics Initiative focused on:
- Mentorship across generations
- Lifelong connection for student-athletes
- A network that empowers leadership beyond sport
This initiative celebrates excellence and reminds us all:
Once you’re part of the team, you’re always part of the team.
