Long-time local building suppliers join forces

A recent acquisition will pump new life into the home improvement market in Happy Valley, benefitting homeowners, business owners and building contractors. Penns Valley Building Supply announced last week that it has acquired Triangle Building Supply (Witherite Building Supplies and Services, LLC, which includes both the retail store and rental center) and Triangle Home Showcase, LLC, which will now operate as Bellefonte Building Supply (Triangle Construction & Roofing and Triangle HVAC are not part of the acquisition).

Co-owner Phil Martin said the businesses will focus on strengthening relationships with professional contractors while continuing to be a trusted source for homeowners and DIY-ers. “We’ll be increasing pro-sales support and product offerings and investing in our employees, equipment, and technology to accomplish these goals,” he said.

Penns Valley Building Supply and Bellefonte Building Supply have deep roots that span decades in their respective communities and both companies serve as full-service lumberyards, hardware stores, and rental centers. The strategic acquisition will serve the local market with increased volume and more streamlined processes, and through shared products, knowledge, service offerings, and equipment.

Common ownership of two building supply stores will allow each location to leverage its strengths, according to co-owner Shane Murphy. “Penns Valley Building Supply has 30+ years of experience with excellent operational practices and a full fleet of delivery trucks to serve the professional. Bellefonte Building Supply has a large recently renovated store and excellent rental center,” Murphy said. “When we can capitalize on these individual strengths, customers enjoy more competitive prices, better service and broader product offerings.”

“Customers want to shop at a store that is convenient and has competitively priced products and services, and a friendly, knowledgeable staff,” Martin said. “More than that, we know many customers want, seek out and appreciate buying local. Triangle Building Supply has played this role in the community for 40+ years, most recently through a pandemic and construction boom. Bellefonte Building Supply will honor that tradition of being a trusted local resource.”

Murphy agreed. “We are holding fast to our cultural mantra of being ‘large enough to serve, and small enough to care.’  That’s extremely important to our business and we are eager to take on new opportunities to make a positive impact in our communities,” he said.

Martin and Murphy stressed that through this transition there will be no disruption to existing sales or replenishment orders and said in the first year the two companies will work towards aligning products, policies, and practices that will make the customer experience similar at both locations. In the short-term, the Penns Valley Building Supply and Bellefonte Building Supply will operate as separate business units, continuing to work with their own set of vendors and customers.
