According to scclandtrust.org, “Once a house becomes a land trust home, it remains permanently affordable to low-moderate income buyers forever,” which allows them to continue to give opportunity to families looking to find their forever homes in Happy Valley. Since 1996, SCCLT has facilitated the creation of over 55 forever homes, providing stable housing for 81 households without a single foreclosure. This track record of success speaks volumes about the effectiveness of SCCLT’s approach and the enduring impact it has on the lives of its residents.

SCCLT’s success isn’t solely measured by numbers. It’s a collaborative effort and shared vision, rooted in Happy Valley, that’s driving the local non-profit. “Collaborative government at many levels, political will, PSU research, and a generous and philanthropic community that invests in equity, wellbeing, and innovation,” said Jennifer Jourdan, Outreach & Development Coordinator, about why SCCLT thrives in Happy Valley.  \

Looking ahead, SCCLT remains committed to expanding its impact and adapting to changing housing dynamics. “Goals in our 2023-2028 Strategic Plan include strengthening our existing housing model while continuing to expand, adapt to changes in housing, funding, and the community, and collaborate with partners and stakeholders,” said Jourdan. The organization’s future endeavors include integrating energy efficiency into housing affordability initiatives, aligning with the Centre Region Climate Plan’s objectives.

SCCLT’s success is grounded in its partnerships and the dedication of its stakeholders. “Our key business segments/customers are donors, volunteers, and clients,” acknowledges Jourdan. It’s a testament to the collective commitment to building a more equitable and resilient Happy Valley.

In a community like State College, where the aspirations of its residents shape its identity, SCCLT stands as a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration and shared purpose. As SCCLT continues its mission, it not only secures homes but also fosters a sense of belonging and opportunity for all who call Happy Valley home.
