Penn State’s Materials Research Institute Open House will showcase space and equipment to potential partners

By Staff Writer

Penn State’s Materials Research Institute and the Institute of Energy and the Environment (IEE) are hosting a free happy-hour-style industry open house for corporate, academic and government prospective partners.

“The National Science Foundation ranks Penn State #1 in materials research and #2 in materials engineering in research expenditures. Our facility in the Millenium Science Complex offers not only state-of-the-art equipment and instrumentation but also a building environment in which they can operate at peak levels,” said David Fecko, Director of MRI Industry Collaborations, Penn State Materials Research Institute. “For example, the characterization lab lives in 15 individual vibration-isolated rooms where there is 0 electromagnetic interference or noise – specially designed for equipment to perform at peak levels.”

“Our core facilities have a mechanism for allowing partners to access the equipment by sending someone to the facility or by sending samples for staff to run. A simplified contract agreement helps to establish relationships without a lot of red tape,” Fecko continued. “We want more people to know what’s available to them.”
